Rachel Eapen Paul was elected as a member of the Council of Europe’s Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) at the meeting of the state parties in Strasbourg on 24 May 2018, as the candidate nominated by the Government of Norway. Paul is Policy Director for Gender-Based Violence at the Office of the Equality and Anti-Discrimination Ombud and a board member of the Norwegian Women’s Lobby.
The annual meeting of the Norwegian Women’s Lobby (NWL) took place in Oslo on 23 May. Ragnhild Hennum, Professor of Public Law at the University of Oslo and Director of the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, was reelected as President. See the full executive board here.
Fakhra Salimi, Executive Director of the MiRA Resource Centre for Black, Immigrant and Refugee Women and Vice President of the Norwegian Women’s Lobby (NWL), has received the Norwegian Association of Lawyers’ Prize for the Advancement of the Rule of Law, for her efforts to promote the rights of immigrant and refugee women.
The state has an important role to play in funding women’s rights organizations as part of the necessary democratic infrastructure that is needed for equal participation, says Margunn Bjørnholt, the President of the Norwegian Women’s Lobby.
