Thousands participated in torchlight parade in honour of Nobel Peace Prize laureates Nadia Murad and Denis Mukwege

The Norwegian Women’s Lobby and five other NGOs organised the traditional torchlight parade in Oslo in honour of Nobel Peace Prize laureates Naria Murad and Denis Mukwege on 10 December 2018. 4,000 people participated in the parade. Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict.”

NWL board member Rachel Eapen Paul elected as a member of the Council of Europe’s Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence

Rachel Eapen Paul was elected as a member of the Council of Europe’s Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) at the meeting of the state parties in Strasbourg on 24 May 2018, as the candidate nominated by the Government of Norway. Paul is Policy Director for Gender-Based Violence at the Office of the Equality and Anti-Discrimination Ombud and a board member of the Norwegian Women’s Lobby.

NWL Vice President Fakhra Salimi receives award for her efforts to promote the rights of immigrant and refugee women

Fakhra Salimi, Executive Director of the MiRA Resource Centre for Black, Immigrant and Refugee Women and Vice President of the Norwegian Women’s Lobby (NWL), has received the Norwegian Association of Lawyers’ Prize for the Advancement of the Rule of Law, for her efforts to promote the rights of immigrant and refugee women.
