CEDAW Shadow Reports

The Norwegian Women’s Lobby (NWL) prepares shadow reports on Norway’s implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (the CEDAW Committee). Former Supreme Court Justice Karin M. Bruzelius, a member of the Norwegian Women’s Lobby’s Expert Committee, is responsible for the 2017 report.

Background

The principal aim of the Norwegian Women’s Lobby is to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and girls, based on the CEDAW Convention, the Beijing Platform for Action and other fundamental international agreements. The Norwegian Women’s Lobby is an umbrella organization for the Norwegian women’s rights organizations and has ten member organizations.

Governments of countries that have ratified the CEDAW Convention are obliged to submit periodic progress reports to the CEDAW Committee. The CEDAW Committee encourages NGOs to submit shadow reports to give the committee a broader basis for assessing how the state in question fulfills its obligations under the Convention.
