The Norwegian Women’s Lobby (NWL), along with several other Norwegian NGOs, met with Baroness Anelay, Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, to exchange views on women’s human rights on 24 November 2014 in Oslo.

NWL President Margunn Bjørnholt emphasised the importance of the rights-oriented women’s organisations in the promotion of women’s rights and their continued importance for the further progress and defence of women’s human rights, both at home and abroad. She emphasised the importance of including the organisations in policy processes and of strengthening their capacity. She also hightlighted the importance of economic rights, and said the UK could draw on the experience and competence of organisations such as the UK Women’s Budget Group and the Scottish Women’s Budget Group, which through mobilisation, expertise and activism in dialogue with the British and Scottish governments have succeeded in institutionalising a gender perspective in public budgets and the budget process.
